U12B (1 v 3) Worthing Town Youth B - by Toop
Both teams started well, with end to end football, but a spell of pressure proved too much for the Whyke defence, when they failed to clear & were punished by Worthing as they narrowly squeezed the ball past an unlucky Aaron Rayner in goal. At that point Worthing started to dominate & could have scored a second but this time the Whyke defence of Bill Spurway, Billy Wheeler, Jordan White & Robin Thompson, were much more determind to clear. After this Whyke started to battle well in midfield, Josh Toop was moving the ball well as was Nick Berryman, Connor Thair was keeping the central area covered. Also in midfield Alfie Elkington put Reiss Cunningham through for a one on one with the Worthing keeper, who saved well, to keep the score at one nil to Worthing. Shortly after this Reiss Cunningham went on a strong run & put Tom Cherrill away who shot fiercly, only to see the keeper dive & save well again. By this time Whyke were mounting pressure on Worthing & when Reiss Cunningham was put through again it looked an almost certain goal, the keeper parried the shot but this time it came out to George Collins who hammered it home to equalise. In the second half Worthing quickly re-took the lead. after this it was end to end stuff & could have gone either way, but with Whyke pushing for the equaliser, they got caught out at the back, for Worthing to score right at the end.
Well done everyone, our best team performance so far. On another day it could have gone our way. Keith & Nick.
Man of the match: Bill Spurway & Billy Wheeler, Who were terrific in defence.
