U9 (6 v 2) rustington otters - by ben langton

SIX OF THE BEST AS FUTURE REALLY COULD BE ORANGE!!!

after more frustration of missed games a tasty mothers day top of the table clash would surely satisfy everybodies appetite. The game started with a flurry of chances for both teams and neither side really found their stride. In the 6th minute a long ball forward deflected of milo tite and into the stride of a rustington forward, he had the simplest of tasks to give the league leaders a 1-0 lead. Whyke poured forward looking for the equaliser and had a succession of 5 corners and many chances. Alfie Johnson was causing problems on the right and Jack Parkinson was also playing his way into the game and had the best of the chances. a 20 yard rasper crashing of the underside of the bar the best of them. A goalmouth scramble had the visitors level on 14 minutes, with Parkinson proding the ball home after some brave goalkeeping from the rustington number 1. Right on the stroke of half time another long ball caught Whyke out and although Will Norris made an outstanding save it deflected again for an easy tap in and the otters lead 2-1 at the break. A confident start was needed to the second half and more chances were created. it wasn't until 30 minutes the equaliser came, a brave header at the far post from Alfie Johnson showing the courage of the team. Just 2 minutes later and another thunderbolt from Parkinson had the keeper beaten and as the ball hit the back of the net you could feel the relief from the players and manager alike. Now Whyke were into their stride, passing and moving the way they knew they could. More chances were created and this time no mistakes were made as Johnson bagged his brace and Parkinson his hat-trick. Thus taking their tallys for the season to 24 and 19 respectively. Whyke weren't finished there as the ball was p[alyed through to an unmarked Matthew Macdonald who calmly slotted home the sixth with 2 minutes to go. A character building performance saw the visitors 2-1 down to 2-6 up in a blistering 10 second half minutes. Well played boys, top of the table where we belong- ice creams all round!!!
man of the match: Jack Parkinson
